Leah Crane, 27 February 2026 3585 How worried should you be about an asteroid smashing into Earth?
For the moment, the answer is not that worried. The true “extinction level” hazardous asteroids have pretty much been found, and none are seen to be on a collision course for the foreseeable future (generally given as ~100 years out). But as we go to smaller and smaller sizes (and thus, continent-regional damage to local-area damage), the asteroids get smaller and more numerous. These, we haven’t all spotted, because they’re smaller, dimmer, and more numerous.
