Just up now from Space Science Reviews (vol. 222):
Hegarty, K.P. Kubota, S. Cully, M. et al. The IMAP Observatory Overview Art 16 s11214-026-01272-z
No, this isn’t redundant to a previous post. That article was about the IMAP program (including the science team and mission ops). This article is on the observatory (i. e., hardware-centric). For you spacecraft geeks, this one’s deep into mechanical builds and specs. And let’s not forget the hi-res parts pictures.
Oh, and like the previous post: this was blogged because IMAP is (not will be, is) doing observations of dust. Dust shed by comets and asteroids, and astero-comets. The IDEX (Interstellar Dust EXperiment) instrument onboard IMAP can’t help but take Solar System dust measurements, alongside the expected interstellar dust stream. Space science truly is interdisciplinary: you can’t focus on one subfield without background (and the occasional breakthrough) in other, related fields.
