Lobate Forms: Mass Movements Directly Linked to Impact Cratering Processes

Craters have rims and floors. Sometimes, the rim collapses back onto the floor. And some of those times, the collapse is flowing and spreading, into a lobe or apron deposit. These lobate deposits are more likely when there’s a volatile fraction in the collapsing material. On Mars and Ceres, that volatile is subsurface ice, helping the rim material flow. This January’s Image of the Month is (are?) lobate deposits on craters around the Solar System, including Ceres.
