Note, Paper: Fissured Collision Issue

  • by

The journal Aerospace Science and Technology published “January” in eight parts, Part A-H. Yes, it’s a wide-ranging journal. The asteroid-relevant parts:

Jan vol. 168 Part A
Z. Sun, Z. Zhang, L. Cheng, et al.  Guaranteed safety and stability neural guidance for asteroid landing under collision avoidance constraints  Art 110758  .2025.110758

Jan vol. 168 Part B
Jiang, J. Xu, B. Li, X. et al.  Research on the design of low earth orbit mega-constellations with space-based defense capabilities  Art 110830  .2025.110830

Why should we built and launch mega-constellations that do nothing but talk? Jiang et al. ponder a constellation with an emergency capacity to impact asteroids.

The definition of “Guaranteed” aside, Sun et al. consider autonomous guidance. Can probes land (more like docking) on asteroids without human intervention (and therefore round-trip time)? It’s an open issue, with partial solutions already in hand. They attempt to close one partial approach.
