24BK021: Asteroids: The UK and Global Approach

Earlier this year, the world watched as a newly discovered asteroid—2024 YR4—was thought to have a low chance of impacting Earth in 2032, sparking a coordinated global response and renewed focus on international efforts to safeguard our planet.

While 2024 YR4 is now known not to pose a risk, it raises important questions: What is the global approach to asteroid monitoring and response? How is the UK contributing? And could asteroids offer opportunities not just for defending our planet, but also for scientific discovery and economic growth?

Whether your work or research focuses on asteroids, or you’re simply curious to learn more, join us for this session where the panel will explore the strategy and science behind the national and global approach to asteroids—and what future opportunities offer.

Speakers
Dr Jinglang Feng, University of Strathclyde
Dr Stefania Soldini, University of Liverpool
