Previously (Winter’s SBAG), I briefly posted about D. Adamo’s research into asteroid way-stations on the path to Mars. Alongside, Lopez and Conte corroborated Adamo’s general idea with their own paper. Adamo’s paper has been published, by the AIAA’s Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets. Sorry I’m a bit behind, but in the May issue (vol. 62, #3):
Daniel R. Adamo Synodic-Resonant Earth/Mars Waypoints pp. 999 1.A36186
Yes, it’s open access. Please read Adamo’s research into those asteroids pretty much halfway between Earth and Mars. This makes them useful as logistical hubs, abort options, radio relay stations (against solar conjuction), and of course any resources those asteroids may inherently have. At minimum, the very act of a successful mission to the halfway point will retire much progammatic risk- ‘if humanity can’t do something, it’s not because we’re off by a factor of two.’
