Note, Paper: Sample Return Science Reviews

How did I miss this one… in Space Science Reviews (vol.221):

Nakamura, T. Engrand, C. Zolensky, M. et al.  Sample Return Missions: Rosetta Stones Returned from the First Small Bodies in the Solar System  44  s11214-025-002268-4

Yes, Space Science Reviews. A journal dedicated to in-depth, broad (“meta”) papers on the given topic. And now we have a Space Science Reviews paper on the Itokawa (Hayabusa), Ryugu (Hayabusa2), and Bennu (OSIRIS-REx) samples. Accordingly, it’s a big, in-depth paper on the given samples, and their broader relevance. Nakamura, Engrand, and Zolensky are big names in the field; Nakamura with JAXA, Engrand within the field of geochemistry/cosmochemistry, and Zolensky as curator of NASA’s meteorite/sample collections. One can safely assume the three (plus coauthors, too) are indeed qualified to speak on this matter. Their matter. Matter from the primitive (unmelted, unerased samples from the early Solar System). If you’ve got the time, have a look at the wider implications of these missions.

…and if nothing else, the presence and results of Hayabusa, Haya2, and OREX set the stage for MMX.
