Tout, Papers: Special Nat. Astron. Issue

  • by

For what it’s worth, the December issue of Nature Astronomy is a special one on Ryugu. Of course, we’re in the digital era, so the notion of an “issue” is handwavey- most of the works in it were already put online before. Still, I’ll appreciate the editorial recognition- Ryugu samples are quite the find:

-, Ryugu in the spotlight Nat Astron 8, 1489 (2024)  s41550-024-02466-7

Most- but not all- papers were already put online. The exceptions are:

Mane, P. Zolensky, M.E. Echoes of a salty ocean on Ryugu  p. 1508  s41550-024-02438-x
Fernando, B. Newman, C. Daubar, I.J. et al. Evaluation of the InSightSeers and DART Boarders mission observer programmes  p. 1521  s41550-024-02434-1

Mane et al. report that, in addition to the usual suspects like phyllosilicates, and the previous reports of phosphates, Ryugu also contains further salts, indicating its water-driven past. Very watery past.

And then Fernando et al. contribute an article reporting on programmatics in general (not just Hayabusa2). The DART mission (plus InSight) aided talent development by having, basically, interns/postdocs. Here are some results of the development effort.
