We press forward on planetary defense on multiple fronts, including some that might not come to mind immediately. The details of crater formation are applicable to different fields, not just ‘armageddon bad’. As computers have gotten faster and faster, and our real-world understanding of asteroid composition and constitution has gotten better and better, we can in turn understand better the results of impact.
