2024 YR4 aside (no, it will NOT kill you), we should give asteroids their proper due. Asteroids are clues left over from the early Solar System, and contain presolar grains (crystals that predate the Sun and planets). Asteroids (the NEOs- Near-Earth Objects) are accessible to robotic and human missions. Of those NEOs, some contain water, organics, and other resources we can use. And, of course, there will be other asteroids like 2024YR4 that we should keep an eye on.
Hence there is Asteroid Day– today, June 30. Luxembourg, including its Space Agency, have had a major role in promoting space development and asteroid exploration. Lots of stuff happens on European Time. This year, being on a Monday, many festivities were instead held Friday and Saturday. (But not all.)
