After your name is in, register for one of the meetings and learn of the eligibility requirements. The Schweickart Prize, named for Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart, is given to a top student in planetary defense and associate asteroid work. The prize includes US$10,000 and a promotional campaign. Last year’s winner, Joe DeMartini, was able to get publicity and contacts for his plan: a network of low-elongation (twilight) follow-up observations, before potential threats could disappear into sunlight. Sorry for the short notice, that’s what a 3-day weekend will do to you. And thanks to Planetary Science News for the tip.
